The Tulip Sampler, circa 1815

Although undated and unsigned, this charming sampler has a lovely tulip border with very soft colors.

Our model was stitched on 36 count handdyed Cottonfields, with silk threads in muted shades that are matched very closely to the original.

In order to match the appearance of the original sampler, all stitches are stitched over three horizontal and two vertical threads, giving the appearance of uneven-weave linen. When stitched in this manner, on 36 count linen, the sampler will measure 8 by 9 inches.

Floss required: Soie d'Alger 2243, 3742, 3823, 3846, 4611. Needlepoint, Inc., silk: 642, 911, and 922.

Stitch count is 104 by 136.
