Spanish Sampler

Although unsigned and undated, this sampler is a typical Spanish sampler, possibly from the mid to late 1700's. It is full of many bands which modulate so beautifully from one to another that it is a joy to stitch. As in most Spanish samplers, many of the bands change in the center. The sheer mathematics of how everything fits charmed me as I reproduced it. The original is owned by Threads of Gold.

This sampler is was reproduced and stitched by Jennett Whiteside of Threads of Gold. It was worked on 36 count church linen with silk.

Stitch count is 268 by 443. On 36 count linen, the piece measures 15 1/2 by 27 inches.
