Barbara Schlater Sampler

This New England sampler was stitched by Barbara in 1787 at an unknown age. She and her family lived on Avery Street in Windsor, Connecticut, and she has stitched the initials of many family members in her sampler.

Barbara used vivid colors in silk and included a variety of stitches, cross stitch over one and two threads, Algerian eye, rice stitch, and tent stitch, all within a border of queen stitches.

The sampler was reproduced and stitched by Jennett Whiteside, on 32 count natural linen from Wichelt.

The Stitch count is 110 by 134. On 32 count linen, the design size is 6 3/4 by 9 inches.
