Sophia Chandler, 1812

Sophia Chandler was only eight years old when she stitched this sampler, which is filled with flower motifs, baskets, and animals. The initials over the temple (ST) tell us that it is a depiction of Solomon's Temple. She chose a special verse, which you can read under the picture at right.

Carol Sessoms reproduced this sampler from the original, which is in her collection. The reproduction is stitched on 40 count Muffin linen. It is stitched almost entirely in cross stitch, with some Algerian Eye stitch. Finished size on 40 count: 10”  x 10.5”.

Chart:  $12.00
