Sarah Rose

Sarah Rose does not date her sampler but simply tells us she was 13 when she stitched it. It is composed of two alphabets and a verse, plus a graceful center urn and many random motifs. The many crowns and the unusual crowned figure on the bottom right give a Scottish feel, but we are unsure if it is Scottish or English. Sarah's stitching makes her unusual verse hard to read, but it appears to be:

  • "Here is the spring where waters flow
  • to quench then heal of sin
  • Here is the tree where truth doth flow
  • To lead our lives therein."

Stitch count is 138 by 296.

Design size on 32 count linen is 8 3/4 by 18 inches.

Reproduced and stitched by Jennett Whiteside.

Our model is stitched on 32 count Country French Latte by Wichelt, using silk floss. Stitches are cross-stitch and Algerian eye.
