Susannah Allen, 1824

This sampler, stitched by Susannah at the tender age of ten, demonstrates her skill with the needle. She used a variety of stitches, but her skill is most evident in the couched cartouche surrounding her name. In stitching her name, Susannah has turned the “e” in Allen backwards, just as it is charted.

This lovely sampler has cross, algerian eye, four-sided, satin and tent stitches. Our model was stitched on hand-dyed 40 count Cottonfields linen. Several strands of hand-dyed floss are included to be couched around the cartouche.

Finished size on 40 count: 13” x 14.2”.

Chart:  $13.00

Kit:  $ 82.00 (silk)/ $65.00 (DMC)
