Orpah Bishop, 1814

This Quaker sampler was stitched by Orpah Bishop in 1814. Orpah has used Quaker alphabets and motifs, as well as family initials, which are seen in most Quaker samplers.

The original sampler was stitched on a very coarse linen, which appears to be 19 count. Our model was stitched on 40 count cream, and is very close in size to the original. After being stitched, it was handdyed with a walnut solution.

We have used Soie d'Alger and Needlepoint silks to closely match the colors of the original. The model was reproduced and stitched by Edna Medlin.

The stitch count is 240 by 269. On 40 count linen, the design size is 12 by 12 inches. On 36 count, 13 by 13 inches, on 32 count, 15 by 15 inches.

Floss required:

Soie d'Alger: 161, 1745, 3715.

Needlepoint, Inc., Silk: 125, 126.

Chart:  $12.00
