This chart is a faithful reproduction of a late 18th or early 19th century sampler. The original was stitched with fine silk thread on a very finely woven 56-count linen. The sampler is stitched mainly in cross stitch over two, with Mary Ann's name and the antlers of the moose at the bottom done "over one." There are some straight stitches, and a few French knots. Our model is stitched on 40 count white linen, stained after stitching with black-walnut spray. The stitch count is 333 by 348. The design size on 40 count linen is 16.75 by 17.5 inches. Floss required: Soie d'Alger #524, 2236, 3821, 4231, 3832, 3836, 1844, 1832, and 1734, plus Needlepoint, Inc., silk # 986, 988, 713, and 901. Chart: $13.00 |
