Mary Maysey 1764 Sampler

Mary Maysey stitched her sampler on a rather coarse 26 count linen. She obviously began with her lovely queen stitch strawberry border, adding as many verses of Proverbs 22 as possible.

Mary does not tell us her age but it's likely she was a young girl as there are words misspelled.

The entire center verses are cross stitched over one thread. The three crowns at the bottom are queen stitch and a very tightly pulled Algerian eye stitch.

The original, owned by Threads of Gold, is hemstitched, using the rust colored silk of the strawberry.

This sampler was reproduced and stitched by Jennett Whiteside of Threads of Gold, on 26 count golden flax by Wichelt, using silk threads.

The Stitch count is 106 by 161. On 26 count linen, the design size is 9 by 12 1/4 inches.
