Elizabeth Minot
An 18th Century Massachusetts Band Sampler

The Minot family settled in Massachusetts in 1630, and many of their descendents still live in that area. Elizabeth worked her sampler in the mid-to-late 18th century. The berry-eating birds, flower sprays, and arcaded floral bands are characteristics of that location and period.

The model was worked entirely in cross stitch, using Needlepoint, Inc., silk floss on hand dyed 28 count Country French latte linen from Wichelt.

The design, stitched on 28 count linen, has a finished size of approximately 8 by 8 1/2 inches.
