Mary Corey 1809

This Pennsylvania sampler was stitched by Mary Corey in 1809. It’s hard to figure where she started her stitching: top or bottom. It looks as though part of the alphabet was removed to finish her flower motif. The alphabet and soft colors would certainly lead us to believe it comes from a Quaker or Pennsylvania German community.

Our reproduction was stitched on 32 count Natural Lite linen from Wichelt Imports. After stitching, the sampler was hand-dyed using walnut shells. Finished size on 32 count linen: 8 inches by 8 inches.
