This sampler was reproduced from a section of an early Mexican sampler stitched by Manuela Peres (her spelling was "Manvela"). All crosses were worked with only vertical threads showing on the back, which is typical for Mexican samplers. The bottom section is stitched entirely in satin stitch. Our model was stitched on 36 count Edinborough linen with silk threads, and after stitching was completed, we used walnut shells to give it an aged look. Fabric and threads are available from Em-li's. The design was reproduced and stitched by Jennett Whiteside. The stitch count is 144 by 290. Stitched on 36 count linen, the design size is 8 by 16 inches.
