Lucy Smith, 1834

Lucy Smith (probably American) stitched her sampler at the age of ten, in 1834, using mostly cross stitch, some over one thread. She stitched the sampler on 40 count linen with silk threads.

Our reproduction of this sampler is stitched on 40 count cream from Wichelt Imports, using soie d'Alger silks which were close to the original. After completing the stitching, we used a walnut shell solution to give it an aged look.

This sampler was reproduced and stitched by Edna Medlin.

The stitch count is 243 by 351. If stitched on 40 count linen, the design measures 12 by 17 1/2 inches. On 32 count linen, the design measures 15 by 22 inches.
