Jane Bailey, circa 1850

Jane's English sampler is an example of the motifs used during this period. Within a simple border, Jane has a variety of flowers, birds, trees, and crowns, all worked in cross stitch. It almost looks as though Jane added her alphabets after completing her verse and motifs. The verse is stitched over one thread except for the capital letters.

Our model was stitched on 40 count cottonfields, using silk threads from Kreinik. If fabric and supplies are not available from your local shop, they can be ordered from Em-li's.

The design was reproduced and stitched by Carol Sessoms and is from the Threads of Gold Collection. The stitch count is 210 by 240. Stitched on 40 count linen, the design size is 10 1/2 by 12 1/2 inches.
