Elizabeth Emma Bice Wade Sampler

Elizabeth Emma Bice Wade worked her sampler in the year 1840, finishing it just three days before Christmas.

Elizabeth Emma used mainly cross stitch in her sampler, however she did stitch an Algerian eye alphabet as was common in many early samplers. She also stitched an alphabet in four sided stitch.

The flowers and unusual twisting border make her sampler particularly beautiful.

The original sampler was stitched on very fine linen, probably 55 to 60 count, and measures only 9 by 12 1/2 inches. Privately owned by Threads of Gold, this sampler is in excellent condition.

This sampler was reproduced and stitched by Jennett Whiteside of Threads of Gold, on 35 count hand dyed linen, with silk threads.

The Stitch count is 253 by 323. On 35 count linen, the design size is 14 1/2 by 18 1/2 inches.
