This Scottish sampler, stitched by Elizabeth Telfer, is not dated. The original shows that the date was picked out, which often happened as young girls matured. All the things that you would expect in a Scottish sampler are represented here: alphabets, crowns, urns, animals, birds, people, and ships, plus recognition of King William and Queen Victoria, and a verse from Proverbs. Colors in this sampler are in the brick family, not the usual bright red, which gives the sampler a soft and different look. Jennett Whiteside reproduced and stitched this lovely sampler, which is stitched on 35 count Vintage from Wichelt Imports, using au Ver a Soie silk threads. When this sampler was introduced at the Nashville market, an error was made in the stitch count. The actual stitch count of this design is 253 by 262. The sampler design size will measure 14 by 14 1/2 inches on 36 count linen. Floss required - Au Ver a Soie: 3726, 3424, 4614, 4611, 3715, 1736, 1745, 2911, 4533, 4531, 3436, 4536, and 3833, plus Needlepoint, Inc. Silk floss #209. Chart: $15.00 |
