| This antique sampler
was stitched on tiffany, a fine gauze of about 60 count, with silk floss
in bright colors. Although it is unsigned and undated, its many motifs
are good examples of those found in early English samplers. Done almost
entirely in cross stitch and some satin stitch, its small size and symmetry
make it a delight to stitch. Our model was stitched on 40 count Cottonfields
linen with silk floss. Finished size on 40 count linen: 9 1/2" x
9 1/8".
