This sampler with its sadly timely verse is undated but appears to be early 19th century American. It is thought that the stitcher may have been an adult. Our model was reproduced and stitched by Christine Ilzhoefer on 40 count cottonfields using Needlepoint Silk, Inc. silk thread. The stitch count is 229 by 179. On 40 count linen the design measures 11 1/2 by 8 inches. On 32 count linen it measures 14 1/2 by 11 1/4 inches.
